Speaking at the conference, Stalin said, “I have come to Germany to build a bridge between the two economies – Germany and Tamil Nadu. By combining Germany’s precision in industry and technology with Tamil Nadu’s energy, we can create a new path of global growth and a strong trade bridge between Europe and Asia.” Tamil Nadu, he said, was one of the leading states in the ease of doing business rankings with his Dravidian Model Government being committed to providing all facilities for investors to open shop. Further, the Chief Minister explained that Tamil Nadu is the most urbanised state with the highest number of factories and skilled manpower.

On the historic connections between Germany and Tamil Nadu, he recalled the contributions of the first Lutheran missionary Bartholomaeus Ziegenbalg. “A German named Ziegenbalg came to TamilNadu in the 18th century, learned Tamil and was the first person to translate and print the Bible in Tamil and spoke of the greatness of the Tamil language,” he said, adding that Tamil and German are among the most ancient languages of the world.
“Just as ‘Made in Germany’ is viewed globally as a mark of quality, ‘Made in Tamil Nadu’ is also becoming a name associated with quality as we produce everything from bicycle to battle tanks,” he said and added that among the companies already operating in Tamil Nadu included Fortune 500 firms like BMW, Daimler-Benz and Telekom.
From Germany, he will land in the UK on the second leg of an investment mission later in the day where he is slated to address the Tamil diaspora and unveil a portrait of rationalist social reformer and Dravidian icon, ‘Periyar’ EV Ramasamy at Oxford on September 4.
